September 5 – Re:Create Kootenay Arts Festival – 606 Arts Space launch event
We are happy and excited to participate in the launch of this new space, which will be home to arts and culture organizations and the new Kootenays School of the Arts. During this event, there will be info booths, artist demos, interactive activities, and an art auction in the lobby. We will have our Whispers of Belonging installation set up for you to listen to pre-recorded messages about belonging and to record your own message. Stop by and chat with us!

September 12 – IBPOC Connect
IBPOC Connect is a monthly meetup for folks who identify as Indigenous, Black, or a Person of Colour. It’s a safer space focused on connection, belonging, storytelling, and community support. Please RSVP here.

September 21 – Intercultural Kootenays AGM (Annual General Meeting)
IK members in good standing are invited and encouraged to attend our AGM, which will take place virtually. We will present a recap of 2025 and what we’ve been up to in 2026 as well as other information to share. Your participation means a lot! Members will receive an email with the Zoom link. If you are a member and have not received the link, please contact us at hello@interculturalkootenays.com.

September (exact date TBD) – Anti-Racism Virtual Book Club
In partnership with the Nelson Library, we will be hosting a virtual book club focused on the topic of anti-racism. If you’re interested in being part of it, please fill out this short form.

Where: Books will be available to pick up at the Nelson Library, discussion will happen virtually (except for one in-person meeting, see below).
October 17 – Book Club in-person meeting
This will be the only in-person gathering for the virtual book club which will begin in September.

IBPOC Connect is a monthly meetup for folks who identify as Indigenous, Black, or a Person of Colour. It’s a safer space focused on connection, belonging, storytelling, and community support. October’s theme is Identity & Intersectionality. (The monthly themes are simply a starting point to spark conversation and connection. IBPOC Connect is an evolving space shaped by the people who gather together, we will listen, reflect, and allow the community to guide where this space grows.)

November 1 – Day of the Dead
IK will be present at the Day of the Dead celebration hosted by Tapatia Collective. We will have an interactive art installation and be available to chat with attendees through the event. For more details about the event click here.
